Just finished up a 5 week long unit on the American Revolution from 1756-1783. The unit was filled with a variety of activities/lessons designed to promote student engagement, creativity and higher level thinking. We also enjoyed two time travels, "1776" and "The Crossing" each bringing to life the excitement, risk, danger, hardship and bravery of this momentous event by experiencing it first hand (or at least pretending to).
The resulting of the summative assessment taken prior to break were outstanding. They demonstrated a deep understanding of the content. The class average ranged from 82% to 93%. The unmeasured growth is evidenced in the students eyes when they realize an understanding or connection and the excitement expressed in anticipation of a time line or project.
Thanks to all the students that worked hard to make this unit a memorable one
